My name is Rosaura Fabra Jaques and I would like to welcome you to Casa Oliver. Since moving to Seattle, Washington in 1999, I have wanted to share a little of my Spanish culture with my American neighbors and others around the world. Living in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and two young children is a great experience. It has also shown me that the friends we've made love the Spanish meals I've prepared for our get togethers. This got me to thinking about growing up in Spain and what I could do to make the cooking ingredients I use available to others.
I was born in Catalonia, Spain where gastronomy and culture are closely connected and where lunch and dinner is family time and the sharing of delicious food. In their cooking, my Mom and her Mom used the freshest products they found in our town's farmers market They put all their knowledge, tradition and, most importantly, love in every meal.
Because my family's business was upscale specialty stores that sold fine food, my childhood was surrounded with handmade cheeses and jamon Serrano, superior tasting olives and fresh-baked bread, high quality olive oil with salt or sugar and many more amazingly good things to eat.
Though I was just 5 year old when my Grandpa Josep passed away, I came to learn how much he loved the delights of gastronomy and gourmet food and the decision he made to open his first store in 1931. He personally roasted and packed his hand-selected coffee to make sure it was always fresh. Grandpa also roasted almonds and hazelnuts that are essential ingredients in Spanish cuisine. Extremely demanding, he chose only the freshest, quality products he could find and wanted only the best for his customers.
Josep passed along his passion and his knowledge of food to my Mom who carefully followed in his footsteps. I then made it my life's mission to continue their tradition of offering authentic fine food products from Spain. In honor of Grandpa's legacy, Casa Oliver was created where we work only with small family producers that offer exclusive artisan products distinguished for being natural and primarily organic.
I am thrilled to carry on my Grandfather's heritage of providing first quality food for the body and the soul. At Casa Oliver, we feature an extensive line of traditional Spanish products such as premium olive oils, vinegars, vegetables, grains, ham, seafood and cheeses.
